High rise jeans for men

High rise and high waisted are interchangeable terms. Todd Shelton makes all-cotton high rise jeans. High rise sits 1 inch higher than standard rise. Inseams from 26 to 38 inches. Made in USA.

How rise affects fit

Rise affects two things: how high the jean sits on the waist and how much room there is in the crotch. Front rise determines whether a jean is low, mid, or high rise. Back rise determines how the jean covers the seat.

Two signs you need more rise: the jean cannot be pulled high enough on the waist, or the crotch is tight when it is. Too much rise and the jean sags below the crotch.

Bone structure and body composition determine where a jean sits. A fuller seat consumes more rise.

All-cotton rise vs. stretch rise

100% cotton denim provides a stable rise measurement. The back rise is a high-stress seam and will stretch one inch or more during a day of wear. This stretch is temporary. The rise returns to its original measurement after laundering. Stretch denim expands faster, particularly in the back rise, and less predictably.

Why high waisted jeans are hard to find

Most brands offer one rise. Adding a second doubles the SKU count for every size in the collection. Todd Shelton makes jeans in its own factory in the USA. High rise is available across the entire collection in all inseams and four thigh fits.

How to measure rise

Lay a pair of jeans you already own on a flat, rigid surface. Smooth out the fabric. Place a measuring tape at the top of the waistband and extend it to the center of the crotch seam.

If the rise on your best fitting jean is slightly tight in the crotch, add ½ inch. If it is significantly tight, add 1 inch or more. Use that number as your target.

Rise measurements for every fit and size are in the Todd Shelton size chart.

Todd Shelton rise options

Todd Shelton makes two rise options: standard mid-rise and high rise. High rise is one inch longer than standard mid-rise. Rise measurements for every fit and size are in the size chart.

If you are unsure which rise you need, order Home try-on. Home try-on ships two jeans for the price of one. Try the same size and fit in both standard and high rise. Return the one that doesn't fit, or both.

Target measurements vs. size chart specs

Front and back rise specifications vary by waist size, thigh fit, and pattern model. Comparing the target measurements of a preferred jean against the published size chart isolates the correct rise option before an order is placed.

Comments from High rise customers

I received my new jeans. They fit very well. I am pleasantly surprised. This is my first pair of high rise jeans. They feel great and I do not need a belt. I wish I had considered wearing high rise jeans earlier. I’m going to very much enjoy wearing high rise jeans going forward. All in all it’s a winning situation.

The jeans arrived yesterday and I just tried them on. They're great! The higher rise is perfect; I've never had jeans that fit like this. Thank you for the back-and-forth to get them just right.
